Galari originated as a university research project at the Kyoto Institute of Technology in Japan. The brainchild of Associate Professor Sushi Suzuki, Galari was born from a desire to find the intersection of technology, design, and humanity. Professor Suzuki aimed to create a product that is calming, and antithesis to the loud and often overwhelming nature of social media and the internet. Galari reflects the principles of calm technology, embracing the belief that technology should serve people, not the other way around.

TECHNOLOGY

The e-paper display on Galari, similar to that found in devices like the Amazon Kindle, features a non-light-emitting, reflective screen that seamlessly integrates into any living space. By eliminating the backlight typical of traditional digital photo frames, Galari avoids distracting light, allowing it to blend effortlessly into the environment. Its built-in Wi-Fi connectivity allows for regular content updates so there’s always something new to enjoy.

Over 5,000 curated images, and counting, are showcased on Galari, spanning diverse styles such as photography, illustrations, abstract art, and educational content. These images are organized into exhibits, similar to playlists, which can update automatically at regular intervals. Users can also upload their own photos or artworks to share with family or the broader Galari community. With internet connectivity, Galari offers endless possibilities, including real-time updates on weather, traffic, and calendar events, as well as dynamic displays scheduled throughout the day.

DESIGN

Galari is available in three sleek, modern frame options crafted from 100% solid wood: Beech, Mahogany, and Walnut. Each frame is finished with natural oil, enhancing the wood’s rich character and smooth texture. The design includes a solid black matte that makes images stand out beautifully.

POWER

Galari offers versatile power options: a rechargeable battery for a clean, cable-free look, or a wired connection for continuous, hassle-free use. The removable battery ensures sustainability and longevity. Once the battery reaches the end of its lifespan, it can be replaced without requiring professional servicing or discarding the product entirely.
